Gasoline To Be Sold For $2.20 Per Gallon TodayShare
220 mph is a common speed in the IRL IndyCar® Series at Michigan International Speedway, so it's fitting that the series will be on hand when the price of gas will be $2.20 per gallon at the Marathon gas station located at 244 Joe Hall Drive in Ypsilanti on Thursday. Members of the public are welcome and encouraged to bring their vehicles to the Ethanol Pump Tour as it stops at the station, which is conveniently located by traveling one half-mile south of I-94 at the US-12 BR exit (Exit 183). The event will start at 11:00 a.m. and will run until 12:30 p.m. E-10 unleaded fuel, a 10 percent ethanol blend, is compatible with any vehicle manufactured since 1980. "The state of Michigan applauds the Jeff Simmons racing team and the IRL IndyCar Series for their commitment to ethanol and for enthusiastically promoting its use," said Michigan Department of Agriculture Director Mitch Irwin. "If anyone can get fans on their feet and to rally around a cause, it's the IndyCar Series." Simmons and fellow IndyCar Series drivers Buddy Rice, Vitor Meira, and Kosuke Matsuura will be at the station to pump the low-priced fuel and interact with the public before they travel to MIS to compete in the Firestone Indy 400. The IRL IndyCar Series is a strong supporter of ethanol fuel with the series racing with E-10 in 2006. The series will race with 100 percent fuel-grade ethanol in its fuel tanks during the 2007 season. "We are proud to partner with the ethanol industry to showcase a great American fuel source," said Brian Barnhart, president and COO of the Indy Racing League. "We feel a commitment to the environment and our country's energy security is consistent with our sport's legacy of race-bred innovation and leadership." Tickets for the July 30 Firestone Indy 400 are currently on sale at MIS's official website, www.MISpeedway.com, or by calling the MIS ticket hotline at 1-800-354-1010. Tickets to all other events during the 2006 MIS season delivered by Domino's Pizza, which include the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series GFS Marketplace 400 on August 20, the NASCAR Busch Series Carfax 250 on August 19, and the ARCA RE/MAX Series Hantz Group 200 on August 18, are also now available. About Ethanol E-10 Unleaded is a blend of 90% ordinary unleaded gasoline with 10% ethanol - a high-octane, clean-burning fuel made from corn and other grains. Every major car maker in the world approves the use of 10% ethanol blends (E-10 Unleaded) in their engines. The ethanol in E-10 Unleaded adds two to three points of octane to gasoline, helping improve engine performance while keeping engine parts cleaner. E-10 Unleaded also helps reduce toxic exhaust emissions, and any vehicle built since 1980 can run on E-10. As a clean-burning and renewable fuel that is non-toxic and 100 percent biodegradable, it reduces air pollution (a 10 percent blend reduces carbon monoxide better than any other reformulated gasoline by as much a 30 percent and shows a 35-46 percent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions) and improves racing's environmental footprint. The highest commercial octane rated fuel delivers strong engine performance by helping engines resist detonation so they can run higher compression ratios.
