Michael Peddle, MIS October Fan of the MonthShare
Michael Peddle of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada has been named the October 2006 MIS Fan of the Month. Peddle will receive an MIS hospitality package for two people to a 2007 race at MIS, in addition to an MIS hat, a T-shirt and a soft-sided cooler.
Peddle is the third MIS Fan of the Month eligible for the 2007 MIS Fan of the Year. He will be eligible to win a trip for two to Homestead, Florida to witness NASCAR's Championship Weekend at Homestead-Miami Speedway in November 2007, along with the final race in the chase for the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup.
The MIS Fan of the Year prize also includes the use of the MIS showcar to display outside his/her home for a day (much like the Stanley Cup tour). The 2007 MIS Fan of the Year also receives two tickets to the MIS event of their choice for the next 10 years.
Please rate on a scale from 1 to 10 how big of an MIS fan you are? Why?
"With all the changes over the last couple of years, MIS seems to be more fan friendly than ever. From the parking lot attendants to the new AAA Motorsports Fan Plaza, without a doubt MIS is the place to be. What could be better than me, my family and 137,242 of our closest friends having the time of our lives?"
What is your most memorable race?
"The most memorable NASCAR race I have ever watched had to be the 1976 Daytona 500. From that day I was hooked. After watching that race I knew that someday I was going to sitting in those stands cheering on my favorite driver. All these years later and I am now an MIS regular."
Who is your favorite driver and why?
"My favorite driver of all-time is Richard Petty. Over the years I have had many favorite drivers but they all have had one thing in common. They have all driven the #43 Petty Enterprises car. This year it happens to be Bobby Labonte driving the #43 Cheerios Dodge Charger. It was great this year to sit in the stands at MIS and see all those yellow Cheerios shirts. Go Bobby!"
What is the greatest race weekend experience for you?
"There have been so many memorable MIS moments that it would be difficult to
name only one. I have always said that my family and I have experienced more
"memorable moments" in just a few years at MIS than most NASCAR fans will
experience in their entire lifetime. As a word of advise to anybody who wants to
enhance their MIS experience, buy a pre-race pit pass and I guarantee it will
automatically triple your MIS experience."
Who comes to the races with you?
"My wife Jan and our 12-year-old son Kyle make the annual trek to Michigan for the August NEXTEL Cup race."
You travel to MIS from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Do you fly or drive?
"For the past four years we have driven the 2,400 mile round trip from Winnipeg, Manitoba to Brooklyn, Michigan. Having the car with us makes it easier to carry all our tailgate supplies. Even the parking lot is part of the whole MIS experience."
Since Winnipeg is located north of North Dakota, why travel so far to watch racing at MIS? You must be a dedicated fan.
"NASCAR fans have been known to do some crazy things. Driving 2,400 miles rates very high on the crazy/dedicated fan list. We have had far too many great MIS memories to not make the trip. Our Manitoba license plate has been a great conversation piece in the parking lot at times. Like the NASCAR commercial says "how bad do you got it?" I would have to say "pretty bad."
Are there very many NASCAR fans that far north in Canada? Isn't hockey the sport of choice?
"NASCAR has developed a huge following here in Canada. For the most part, Canadians are only a few hours away from some of the biggest tracks on the NEXTEL circuit. Watch Race Day on Speed and I am sure there will be
a Canadian flag somewhere in the background. Hockey for most Canadians is a way of life. Do I own a number of race shirts with the #43 on them? (Yes I do.) Do I own a number of hockey jersey's with the #43 on them? (Yes I do.)."
Since the start of the MIS Fan of the Month contest in December 2002, over 10,000 fans have registered for the contest at MIS's official website.
