Trick out your pet on October 29Share
Trick out your pet and win a treat from Michigan International Speedway and NASCAR driver Ryan Newman.
Bring your costumed pets trick-or-treating at MIS anytime from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 29 for a chance to win an autographed copy of Ryan Newman’s book “Pit Road Pets: NASCAR Stars and Their Pets.”
All pets at MIS that day will receive a treat and be photographed in their Halloween garb.
Photos will be e-mailed to Newman, who will choose the best dressed pet and winner of his book. All pet photos will also be posted online at www.MISpeedway.com.
“For Krissie and I, our dogs are like our children. They are such an important part of our family, and pets are part of the NASCAR family, too,” Newman said. “I think it is really cool that MIS is going to have a Halloween costume contest with NASCAR fans' pets. When we we're shooting photos of fans and their pets for our second book "Pit Road Pets: The Second Lap," at Michigan this summer, we saw how creative the Michigan fans could be and how much they love their pets. I'm looking forward to seeing the costumes and getting a good laugh, too."
“Pit Road Pets: NASCAR Stars and Their Pets” is a collection of first-person stories and photographs of nearly 50 NASCAR celebrities and their pets, including Newman, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Tony Stewart, Jimmie Johnson and Bobby Allison. A second edition of the book is under way and is expected to be released next year. Some of the photos for that edition were taken during NASCAR’s summer stop at MIS in June.
MIS recently announced dogs will be welcomed to camp at the Graves Farm Campground during the track’s 2010 NASCAR events in June and August. The move should help race fans who camp there save a little money by not incurring dog boarding fees during race weekends.
“Many of the staff here, including myself, own dogs and we view them as part of the family,” speedway President Roger Curtis said. “We’ve heard from our race fans that bringing their dog to the racetrack during their stay is a priority because so many of them view their dog as part of the family.”
Newman and his wife Krissie are pet owners who, through the Ryan Newman Foundation, help educate and encourage families to adopt from animal shelters and rescue groups, and to spay and neuter family pets.
Nestled in the lush Irish Hills of Southeastern Michigan, Michigan International Speedway is the Great Escape, a venerable NASCAR national park where fans can get away and enjoy the very best in racing and camaraderie. It’s the love of racing and the thrill of a great time for race fans and drivers alike.
