Answering the call
Generous race fans answered the call with food and toy donations during the Heluva Good! Sour Cream Dips 400 race weekend, making the first MIS Cares Food and Toy Drive a success.
Michigan International Speedway President Roger Curtis and staff members from Two Men and a Truck delivered the food and toy items to the CCIS Food Pantry in Brooklyn, Mich., on Tuesday giving the non-profit organization a much-needed boost for the summer months.
MIS Cares also donated $1,000 to the pantry for food and other supplies, and the speedway isn’t done yet. Curtis announced it will participate in the “Fill a Bag, Feed the Hungry” campaign, which will take place in July.
“We’re happy to do our part in helping local community organizations like the CCIS Food Pantry in Brooklyn,” Curtis said. “I would personally like to thank all the fans who donated items during the race weekend to help with this effort. The summer months are a difficult time for the food pantry to keep shelves stocked, so MIS is happy to help in whatever way we can.”
MIS staff will collect 50 grocery bags of food to donate to the shelter. Paper goods and health and beauty items are also needed.
The CCIS Food Pantry is open and accepts donations from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday and Thursdays. The food pantry is in need of various items including canned fruit, peanut butter and jelly, pasta and canned vegetables. Non-food items needed include paper towels, toilet paper, bar soap and laundry soap.
MIS will partner with Two Men and a Truck again for another MIS Cares Food & Toy Drive for the August 13-15 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Show Me the CARFAX race weekend. MIS Cares is also planning another Track Drive for Charity in December, which will benefit the food pantry and Jackson Toys for Tots.
