MIS Cares accepting grant applications
With the success of many fundraising events in 2010, Michigan International Speedway’s charitable arm, MIS Cares, will be awarding even more grants to area organizations at the end of this year.
The deadline for organizations to apply for MIS Cares grants is Friday, October 1. Applications may be downloaded at MISpeedway.com/MISCares.
All applications will be reviewed and organizations will be contacted if they are awarded a grant from MIS Cares. All 501(c)(3) charitable organizations located in the United States are eligible, but preference will be given to local organizations.
The success of the ‘Fish Your Bass Off Tournament’ in August, which raised more than $27,000, and other fundraising campaigns including NASCAR Day pin sales, gives MIS Cares more finances and flexibility to spread among many area charitable organizations in 2010.
“We had a tremendous fundraising year,” MIS Director of Government and Community Affairs Alisha Cottrell said. “With a very successful Fish Your Bass Off Tournament, many NASCAR Day pin sales and other great fundraisers, we are going to be able to help many organizations who are seeking assistance this year. Unfortunately, we are not able to help everyone, but will we try our best to help as many charities as we can who are in need.”
MIS Cares donated more than $15,000 in grant donations to a number of area organizations and charities in 2009, including the American Red Cross, Michigan United Conservation Clubs (MUCC) and the Salvation Army’s Toys for Tots campaign.
MIS Cares’ mission is to create a lasting, positive impact on the local community through charitable giving and volunteer efforts that cultivate community growth and advances the quality of life.
Nestled in the lush Irish Hills of Southeastern Michigan, Michigan International Speedway is the Great Escape, a venerable NASCAR national park where fans can get away and enjoy the very best in racing and camaraderie. It’s the love of racing and the thrill of a great time for race fans and drivers alike.
