MIS in full support of Big 3

Big 3 making a turnaround

With the news coming out of Detroit that the Big 3 automakers – GM, Ford and Chrysler, are investing over $2 billion into the Michigan economy in the next few years adding as many as 2,250 jobs and retaining thousands more, is a positive sign that the industry is finally taking a step in the right direction.

From Michigan International Speedway and its president, Roger Curtis’ perspective, the Irish Hills track is in full support of the industries continued investment in Michigan, thus putting many race fans back to work or retaining their jobs for years to come.

“This is great news for the auto industry, our state and our race fans that work tirelessly for their income and choose to spend it with us every summer,” Curtis said. “With the economic issues the state and surrounding region have suffered over the past several years, it has caused many of our race fans to make a tough choice not to return to MIS due to concerns about their jobs. This investment by the Big 3 automakers will put thousands of people back to work and give job security to many of our fans who were concerned with whether or not they would have a job tomorrow.

“We appreciate Governor Jennifer Granholm and the Michigan Economic Development Corp. for their efforts with this investment. This $2 billion investment doesn’t solve all of our issues, but it’s a step in the right direction for our state. As a proud resident of Michigan, I want to see the Great Lakes State rebound from this economic climate and in turn see many of our loyal race fans return to MIS. All of us in the racing business depend very heavily on the auto industry and as the hometown track for the Big 3, we fully support all three automakers through these tough times,” Curtis continued.

Nestled in the lush Irish Hills of Southeastern Michigan, Michigan International Speedway is the Great Escape, a venerable NASCAR national park where fans can get away and enjoy the very best in racing and camaraderie. It’s the love of racing and the thrill of a great time for race fans and drivers alike.
