Take a lap and tour around MIS!Share
Back by popular demand, Michigan International Speedway is excited to announce the return of its Track Laps, as well as an added feature for 2011, a behind the scenes tour on select Tuesdays following laps around the track.
On select dates during the months of May through August, race fans can make their dreams come true and take a few laps on the high-banked two-mile oval of MIS.
For just $25, fans can create lasting memories of their own on the historic Irish Hills track. This special event allows participants the opportunity to take three laps around the track at a maximum speed of 70 mph. Laps will take place during the 12-1 p.m. lunch hour and will be paced by the MIS Ford Mustang pacecar.
Last year, Chuck Kaminskas and his younger brother, Greg, took advantage of the opportunity to drive on the high banks of the two-mile MIS oval.
“It was something very special. We will remember this forever,” the brothers from Royal Oak and Westland, Mich., respectively, said following their laps around the track. “We enjoy MIS very much and have been longtime race fans. It’s a beautiful day to do this and we had a great time!”
The track laps are limited to passenger vehicles only; no motorcycles. No passing of other vehicles will be allowed at any time. The driver of the vehicle must be 18 years of age and all participants will need to sign a waiver before driving on the track. Seatbelts and headlights must be on at all times. Laps will take place rain or shine. In the case of a date cancellation due to extreme weather or safety conditions, MIS will contact all guests in advance on their visit.
The 2011 dates are scheduled to run from May through August: May 24, May 26, May 31, June 1, July 22, July 25-28, August 1-5.
New this year to the track laps program, will be a special feature called Tuesday Tours. This will give individuals an opportunity to take a tram tour of the track and visit such locations as the media center, pit road suites, Champions Club, start/finish line, and more. Please note that access to specific areas can never be a guaranteed part of any tour.
The price will be $5.00 per person and will be pre-sold only as an add-on to track laps purchases. Tours are not sold separately. Space is limited, so sign up quick!
The scheduled dates for Tuesday Tours are May 24, 31, July 26 and August 2. The tram will depart at approximately 1 p.m. from the infield reserved parking lot.
Reservations for Track Laps and Tuesday Tours can may be made by calling 800-354-1010 (no online purchases are available). Advance sales are encouraged due to limited availability. Once a phone order has been placed, a ticket will be mailed to the guest in advance of their selected day. All guests must enter and present their ticket at the tunnel entrance to the track off of Brooklyn Highway. For more information, visit www.MISpeedway.com/tracklaps.
Walk-up purchases can be made based on availability by visiting the MIS Administration Building between the hours of 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
