Larry Callahan and Selected of God to perform national anthem


Larry Callahan and Selected of God, the iconic Detroit choir from the 2011 Chrysler 200 “Born of Fire” Super Bowl ad, will sing the national anthem and perform during driver introductions at the 2013 Quicken Loans 400 at MIS.

The Quicken Loans 400 is scheduled for 1 p.m. Sunday, June 16. Pre-race and driver introductions will begin at 12:30 p.m. Make sure to be in your seats to see a unique driver introduction experience, as choir will be performing their soulful rendition of Eminem’s “Lose Yourself”. The group’s rendition of the national anthem will follow.

The choir will start the day with a musical performance at noon from the frontstretch.

“We are pleased to welcome Larry Callahan and Selected of God to MIS,” track president Roger Curtis said.  “Their Super Bowl hit was powerful and they strive to make a difference in the Detroit and Michigan communities.  We can’t think of anyone better suited to perform our national anthem and driver introductions.”

Larry Callahan and Selected of God have been together for over 10 years, bridging the gap of hopelessness, unemployment and economic downturn with the love of God and song. With some 22 singers, the choir has traveled throughout the United States and Canada and France. The notoriety from their exposure in the Super Bowl garnered them countless opportunities in television and film, and now the choir has returned to the studio releasing their third compact disc, The Evolution II, as the premier artists on Sing2Praise Records.

In 2011, Selected of God was chosen to perform in the Emmy award winning commercial “Born of Fire: Imported from Detroit” featured during the Super Bowl. The two-minute commercial featured the then 15-member choir singing their soul stirring rendition of the platinum selling artist Eminem’s song “Lose Yourself”.

“One shot” has been the silent war cry of these singers; making the most of their God given talent has brought beauty and glory to a place once considered dark and desolate. Their story personifies the resilient nature of not only the human condition, but also the city of Detroit. The choir has made headlines around the world, performing at the Nike France All-Star Basketball Game, Detroit Tigers playoff games, ESPN advertisements during Monday Night Football and at the Verizon Wireless “How Sweet the Sound” choir event.
