Grab your fishing pole and come to Milliken State Park and Harbor on August 17 to fish with Furniture Row Racing driver Martin Truex Jr.

Fans are invited to join Truex, and the Michigan Department of Natural Resources for a special fishing clinic at 3:55 p.m. Guests are invited to Milliken State Park at 1900 Atwater St., Detroit, Michigan. There is no better way to learn about fishing in Pure Michigan than with Truex along the picturesque Detroit River.

Join Truex for a Hook Line & Sinker fishing experience on the Detroit Riverfront and find out why Michigan is known for its world class fisheries.  No experience or equipment is required to attend!

First time anglers will start off with an introductory casting course to learn the basics before moving on to a real fishing rod with live bait.  Park staff will assist you at every step. A rod and bait will be provided.

And the lessons are FREE.

Participants 17 and older must have a fishing license, which can be purchased at the Outdoor Adventure Center across the street. You can also purchase a fishing license online.

And stick around for a special Q&A session with Truex and Michigan International Speedway President Roger Curtis. Now is your chance to ask Truex about your favorite sport.

“We cannot think of a better way to enjoy an August day than along the Detroit River fishing and talking about the Pure Michigan 400,” Curtis said. “The state of Michigan has so many great areas for fishing and what a better person to know the top spots than Truex. We are excited to invite our fans to a demonstration to learn about fishing and a special Q&A with a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver.”

Truex is an avid outdoorsman who enjoys spending his free time with a fishing pole in hand. In fact, he often spends extended time in Michigan for both NASCAR Sprint Cup races at MIS to fish in any of the lakes in the state.

But don’t ask him about his favorite fishing locale. He keeps those private so he can get the biggest catch.

“Let’s just call Michigan an adopted home track and state,” Truex said in June. “We have a blast each time we go to Michigan, catch a lot of fish – and please don’t ask where because I am not giving away any secrets where the fish are biting.”

Truex started the season in thrilling fashion by finishing second in the Daytona 500 by just 0.010 of a second to Denny Hamlin. It was the closest finish in the history of the sport.

He posted his first win of the season by leading 392 laps in the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway. That victory punched his ticket to the Chase for the Championship. Truex currently ranks eighth in the points.

Truex enjoyed his best season in 2015 when he advanced to the final four for the Chase for Championship. He finished the year with one win and second in the final point standings.

Michigan is home to world-class freshwater fishing with 3,000 miles of Great Lakes shoreline, more than 11,000 inland lakes, and tens of thousands of miles and rivers and streams. With low licensing fees and a large variety of species to choose from, the fish are always biting in Pure Michigan. Visit www.michigan.org/fishing to learn more.
