Recycling Efforts
In 2008, Michigan International Speedway began a partnership with Coke Recycling and Schupan Recycling to assist with the speedway’s mission to reduce waste.
Carbon Offset
NASCAR partnered with Michigan International Speedway in June 2009 for its “NASCAR Green Clean Air” program to help capture the carbon emissions produced by racing. Together they will be planting a total of 40 trees on the MIS property during fall 2009.
Conservation Efforts
Michigan International Speedway has nearly 200 acres of protected wetlands. We are currently researching mitigation, restoration, educational and enhancement programs.
Solar Efforts
In June 2010, upon the completion of the new suite and media center along pit road at MIS, the track will become the first one on the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series circuit with a alternative energy source.
Green initiatives
With much of its 1,400 acres featuring a variety of forests, protected wetlands and scenic wildlife reminiscent of the Irish Hills, Michigan International Speedway is no stranger to conservation efforts.
MIS is expanding those efforts with initiatives which further enhance its commitment to the “Great Escape – National Park” atmosphere that race fans and staff have enjoyed for years. Additionally, these steps are helping achieve the track’s goal of reducing its carbon footprint.
Programs that MIS has taken part in voluntarily to help reduce pollution, lower energy usage and reduce costs:
• Michigan Business Pollution Prevention Partnership (MBP3)
• Retired Engineers Technical Assistance Program (RETAP)
