About
The Spirit of America
On 9/11, Michigan International Speedway will put more volunteer blood donors
than ever on the fast track to help save lives through the Spirit of America
800. To learn more about the drive, visit the
About the Drive
page.
In the first five years of this unique blood drive, blood donors proved they
wanted to give and that they wanted to give more. So this year, MIS raised the
stakes and changed the event's name to recognize the 800 or more people who will
come out to donate blood.
On top of retaining the title of Michigan's largest blood drive, and the
nation's biggest drive on Patriot's Day, the Spirit of America 800 aims to:
- Energize the nation's patriotic spirit
- Pay homage to the victims and survivors of the 2001 terrorist attacks
- Salute our men and women in uniform
- Shore up our nation's blood supply for ongoing and emergency medical
needs
- Attract new blood donors to a lifetime of giving
- Create a memorable, fun-filled annual event that helps save lives
