I send greetings to those gathered at Michigan International Speedway for the Spirit of America 800 blood drive.

Five years have passed since our country was brutally attacked on a quiet September morning. Thousands of innocent lives were taken from us on September 11, 2001, and the victims and families who lost loved ones remain in the hearts and prayers of our nation.

The events of that day reminded Americans of what matters most in life and revealed to the world the true character and resolve of our people. By answering the call to help others, participants in this year's Spirit of America 800 blood drive demonstrate a spirit of patriotism and compassion and contribute to a culture of service that strengthens our Nation.

I appreciate the many donors and all those who have worked to make this blood drive possible. Your efforts honor those who have sacrificed so much for our country and set an example for others that reflects the true spirit of America.
