Onsted High School and Michigan International Speedway have come together to celebrate the accomplishments and years of hard work for graduating seniors.
On Friday, July 17 at 7 p.m., while being led by the pace car, the graduates – inside their vehicles – will take to the two-mile track. Graduates will hear their names aloud on the track’s public address system as they cross the start/finish line.
“These students have worked extremely hard to get to this day and we are excited to provide them a space to have this event,” said Michigan International Speedway President Rick Brenner. “We wish them the best of luck in all their future endeavors.”
“Onsted Community Schools is excited to offer this unique and special graduation ceremony for our senior class this school year,” said Onsted Superintendent Steve Head. “We would like to thank MIS for extending this opportunity for our families on this special occasion.”
The ceremony will be closed to the public, and all in attendance will remain in their vehicles throughout the duration of the event.
A donation option will be available for those in attendance. Patrons will have the opportunity to donate $10 to help a student from the surrounding community attend the MIS STEM event in 2021. The event includes demonstrations and curriculum surrounding the aerodynamics involved in racing and a ticket to attend a race at MIS.
