August 2006 Campsite Winner AnnouncedShare
With "Pirates" selected as the theme for the August Campsite Contest at Michigan International Speedway during the August 18-20 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup weekend, a large number of entries were submitted, but one in particular made everyone else walk the plank.
Out of the many entries in the August 2006 contest Rich Wilbur of Hesperia, Mich. emerged as the winner. With nearly 10 people dressed in Pirate wear and a site decorated with a palm tree and homemade pirate ship, Wilbur and his crew showed great creativity with their Brookfest campsite. In turn, Wilbur will receive his campsite for free during the August race weekend in 2007.
Participants in the contest registered their sites, which were designed based on the pirate theme selected by MIS.
"Their enthusiasm not only for our contest but for camping in general was what set them apart from the rest of the contestants," said MIS Director of Guest Services Tim Booth. "It was really neat to see Rich's whole crew dressed as pirates and their homemade ship was very creative. We're very fortunate to have dedicated fans like this at MIS."
Deposits are now being accepted for the 2007 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup events at MIS by calling 1-800-354-1010. Placing a deposit allows customers to purchase tickets after the renewal process but before the public on sale date.
