MIS Turn One Grandstand Project Nearing CompletionShare
Michigan International Speedway's project of replacing grandstands in turn one is nearing the finish line as a completion timetable has been set for the end of May. With just under two months until the start of the 2007 MIS race season, the grandstands are taking shape with the speedway's familiar and distinct yellow and red pattern. "This is a great addition for our fans that resulted directly from listening to our guest’s feedback," track president Roger Curtis said. "I can’t stress enough how much these updated seats will be to improving the race experience for our fans. The fans told us they wanted more comfortable seats and this is the first step in providing those seats." The new grandstands will be fan-friendly and offer race fans enhanced seating and amazing sightlines of the two-mile oval. Seats in the new grandstands are four inches wider than the seats in the old grandstands, and will allow fans greater leg room. In addition, all of the new seats are bench-style with seat backs. The new grandstands are also higher than the old grandstands so fans who sit there will have breathtaking views of all the on-track action at MIS — including a fantastic view down pit road. This is just the first of several projects that MIS is doing to enhance the race fans experience for 2007 based upon customer feedback. Along with the better turn one seating, MIS also has plans for enhanced tram stops and additional trams for guests with disabilities, as well as RV camping along pit road. A new parking lot for Skylounge Suite holders has also been constructed just north of the AAA Motorsports Fan Plaza. Most significantly, traffic patterns for NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series race days are also being improved. The refined patterns will make traffic flow out the speedway faster following NEXTEL Cup races.
