In addition to great wines, beers and entertainment, the Great Lakes Wine Fest at Michigan International Speedway on June 26-27 will also feature cars of all types on display during the two-day event.
Old, new and future cars will all be on hand for fans enjoyment, which will include a mixture of classic vehicles, stock cars and cars very rarely seen by the public.
The Progressive Insurance Automotive X Prize competition being held at MIS this summer will display many of its vehicles at the Great Lakes Wine Fest. This is one of the few opportunities the cars of the future will be on display to the public. The goal of the Progressive Insurance Automotive X Prize is to inspire a new generation of viable, super fuel-efficient vehicles that offer more consumer choices. Ten million dollars in prizes will be awarded to the teams that win a stage competition for clean, production-capable vehicles that exceed 100 Miles per gallon or energy equivalent. The competition, scheduled for completion at MIS in mid-July, will take a weekend break to participate in the Great Lakes Wine Fest.
Also, the Gilmore Car Museum, located in Hickory Corners, Mich., will have classic cars on hand, as well as the Onsted Kiwanis Show Car National group from Onsted, Mich., who hold their annual classic car event at MIS in July.
“Cars are what make our business successful here at MIS, so it’s only fitting that we have a variety of different vehicles on display for Great Lakes Wine Fest patrons to enjoy,” MIS Director of Business Development Kevin Kelly said. “Many of our great relationships with a host of different groups, including the Progressive Insurance Automotive X Prize, are helping us support this event and we thank them for that.”
The speedway will also be doing an MIS Pace Car Experience with its 2011 Ford Mustang throughout the weekend. Each $10 ride will consist of two laps around the two-mile oval. No reservation is necessary.
Nestled in the lush Irish Hills of Southeastern Michigan, Michigan International Speedway is the Great Escape, a venerable NASCAR national park where fans can get away and enjoy the very best in racing and camaraderie. It’s the love of racing and the thrill of a great time for race fans and drivers alike.
