Race to Vegas winner receives visit from MIS

Vic Loomis wins Race to Vegas contest

If winning the Race to Vegas contest wasn’t enough, Vic Loomis received another surprise when Michigan International Speedway staff members stopped by in the pace car to officially award his prize in East Lansing on Friday.

MIS Director of Communications Sammie Lukaskiewicz, Director of Ticketing Linda Wyne and Manager of Public Relations Dennis Worden arrived at the Grand Traverse Pie Company in East Lansing with the Ford Mustang pace car, awarding Loomis with a large golden ticket for his trip.

“On behalf of Michigan International Speedway, we would like to congratulate Vic Loomis as the winner of our Race to Vegas contest,” Worden said. “Mr. Loomis is a wonderful race fan and we are proud to be here today to present his Las Vegas trip to him.”

Loomis was randomly selected as the winner of the Race to Vegas contest. A longtime MIS fan who has attended races at the Irish Hills track for 21 consecutive years and 23 years overall, Loomis will travel to Las Vegas to attend the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Awards Ceremony with track President Roger Curtis Dec. 2-4.

“Thank you so much. This is wonderful. I still can’t believe I received the call from Roger the other day to tell me that I won the trip to Las Vegas and the NASCAR Sprint Cup Awards Banquet,” Loomis said. “I am happy to represent the speedway and all MIS race fans on this adventure.”

He will receive a once-in-a lifetime experience to attend the awards banquet, walk the red carpet and mingle with the stars of NASCAR, including the elite top-12 drivers. As a fan of team owners and fellow Michiganders Jack Roush and Roger Penske, Loomis is anxious to see and possibly meet drivers such as Greg Biffle, Matt Kenseth, Carl Edwards and Kurt Busch.

“I like all of them, but it would be nice to maybe meet one of the Roush or Penske drivers, especially Greg Biffle. I have been a fan of his over the years,” Loomis said.

The Race to Vegas contest is an extension of the speedway’s Fan Appreciation Program, which provides experiential prizes to fans throughout the year, including race weekends. Since its inception in 2009, the program has given away thousands of prizes to lucky winners on a random basis.

Loomis and his friend and fellow race fan, Tom Eifert of Lansing, will receive round-trip coach airfare and hotel accommodations at the famed Wynn Hotel, along with a seat at the banquet. Eifert first introduced Loomis to MIS all those years ago – so he thought it fitting to return the favor and bring him to Las Vegas as his guest.

He was selected among all customers who either renewed their tickets and camping for the 2011 season or placed a $30 deposit. Fans also had an opportunity to submit a 3x5 card.

Nestled in the lush Irish Hills of Southeastern Michigan, Michigan International Speedway is the Great Escape, a venerable NASCAR national park where fans can get away and enjoy the very best in racing and camaraderie. It’s the love of racing and the thrill of a great time for race fans and drivers alike.

New customers can still log onto www.MISpeedway.com or call 800-354-1010 to leave a $30 deposit for the 2011 season. That deposit ensures race fans get the best pricing for 2011.
